Prize to the best paper

From the start of the event, congress members were able to take part in several Technical Sessions forming the backbone of the Congress. Thirty-eight Technical Sessions were grouped into eight topics, with a total of 140 conferences being held. This programme was accompanied by more than 170 poster exhibitions in the exhibition space, all of which provided congress members with an up-to-date overview of the hottest topics in the winter road sector.

The organisers decided to award a prize to the best paper, a first for the International Winter Road Congress, and therefore developed an app which all congress members could use to vote through the Congress website.

At the closing ceremony, the World Road Association's President, Óscar de Buen, announced the winning paper, which was presented under the topic of "Winter service in a constrained budgetary context". The award went to the author of the paper, Enrique Soler Salcedo, along with his co-authors, Miguel-Ángel García y Diego Herreros. The three Spaniards' paper was entitled "Efficient winter road maintenance in a limited budgetary context".

The prize was a traditional Andorran lime wood salt dispenser, hand made by the Andorran woodcarver, Marí Vieira, using the decorative technique used by Pyrenean shepherds.
